Why unscripted, unpolished video is outperforming produced content in B2B right now — and how to use both without choosing sides.

The highest-performing content format in B2B right now isn't a polished brand video or a beautifully designed carousel. It's a founder, on their phone, talking through a hard problem. No script. Bad lighting. Real stakes. And it's converting.
Consumers have spent the last decade being marketed to at scale. They've developed something researchers call "creative fatigue immunity" — their brains have learned to recognize and skip produced content before the message even lands. The branded lower thirds, the perfect music fade, the rehearsed talking points — it all reads as "ad" in the first two seconds.
What triggers a completely different response is content that feels like a person made it. Not a marketing department, not an agency, not a template. A person. With an actual opinion, speaking at a pace that isn't optimized, making a point they actually care about.
The data backs this up. Unedited human video content — the kind with natural pauses and self-corrections — generates significantly higher recall than equivalent produced content, despite lower production quality by conventional metrics. The imperfection isn't a liability. It's the signal. It tells the audience that someone with real knowledge and real skin in the game is talking to them.
The brands winning right now aren't choosing between polished and raw. They're running both. Premium assets for credibility — the kind that says you're serious and professional. Raw, human content for community — the kind that says you're real. The mistake most brands make is thinking it has to be one or the other. It doesn't. Each does a different job, and you need both to build trust at scale.
The shift is this: it used to be that production quality was the barrier. Only brands with budgets could look good. Now the tools are democratized and everyone looks good. So looking good is no longer the differentiator. Being real is.
The Takeaway
Put a person on camera. Not talent. Not a spokesperson. Someone who actually does the work and has a genuine opinion about it. Give them a topic and let them talk.
Don't over-produce it. Resist the urge to script it, light it, and edit out every pause. The rough edges are doing real work. Let them.
Run it alongside your polished content, not instead of it. The premium assets tell people you're credible. The human content tells people you're worth trusting. You need both signals in the market at the same time.
Behind the Curtain
One of the things we push our clients toward is identifying who on their team actually has something worth saying — and then getting out of the way. The instinct is always to produce it, brand it, make it look like everything else. We push back on that. The founders and operators who are willing to show up unscripted, talking through real problems, are building audiences that no ad budget can replicate. That's the work we care about right now.
